I need a good toolkit and cable tester for work. Not to expensive (paying for it myself), but something that will last. For the cable tester I was hoping for something that does more then just make the line blink. Any suggestions?

'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird? -

They sell for around $400 new I believe so I might have just been lucky. They make an earlier model too but I forget what it's called. Pretty nice, comes with 8 remotes if you need to ID cables. Can measure length of cables, test for shorts and mis-wired cables, etc.
IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. - LinkMaster™ PRO & LinkMaster™ PRO XL
Probably out of the budget at the new price, but if you can pick one up used for ~$100 it's worth the investment. -

That one looks Great
But it has some missing features, you can not use it to trace cables in a live environment, I think that you will need to disconnect the cable to check if it is the right one, and I think it will not work with telephone cabling.
I have been thinking about getting this
IntelliTone Toner and Probe - Cable Installation Tools - Fluke Networks
It will not show you the length of the cable, but it has some nice features, Like "the_Grinch" I'm paying for it, so I have been delaying the purchase for a few months. -

I like it alot. My only gripe with it is sometimes if the cables are all right onto of one another you have to be really careful that you are getting the right cable as this device picks up the pulse even when not touching the correct cable. Its possible this newer model has advanced on that. But I really do like the product
