windows Installer help!!!

Hello everyone. Here is my problem: Im trying to install visio 2003 on a windows xp pc for a user, during the install the installatio stops with no error, i try ctrl alt del and no response, the machine completely crashed. So i do a hard reboot, and try again, same thing happens, it freezes with no errors. This time i check event log but nothing is loged for when the issue happened. Then i assume maybe it might be something with windows installer 3.1 which the machine has, so i go out to MS and install it, but it freezes the machine while its installing. Could someone please tell me if or how i can fix this, if it is windows installer being corrupted, how can i fix it.

Time for a spyware scan it sounds like to me. Checking the hardware health might not be a bad idea either.
