Learning about Encryption
veritas_libertas
Hello everyone,
Does anyone have a suggestion on studying encryption types, hashes, etc.? This area of the certification is giving me headache. If you have taken this before is there a way of remembering them that worked for you?

What material are you using to prepare for the exam?

what books are you reading. the sybex book is pretty good for breaking it down. I will type the info into charts and just look them over.
Hands-on is the other great way to learn. set up a server and play with the different protocols.

get gnupg and if you are using windows, gpgshell:
Some Apps (GPGshell, TitleTime)
this will show you some trust models, encryption/hash examples, pki.

Sadly, most of this is just rote memorization. Do some research and create tables for all the different types (block ciphers, stream ciphers, hashing algorithms, etc.)
Wikipedia has a good table for stream ciphers:
Stream cipher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(they don't for block ciphers though).
