The user account name and password that you add to the hyper-v server and authorize as an admin MUST be identical to the account you are connecting with from your box.

Oh did all that .. still no luck .. but found a script on the MSDN forums which does all that in 10 seconds, dcoms and whatnot .. but still .. kinda annoying

He links to that script. Its worked for me in the past with Hyper-V Server 2008, though I have not tried it in 08.

Its actually quite a shame that Hyper-V server pretty much requires it being joined to a domain.

Ah right, because the step by step from that site doesn't work for some reason .. Been through that with a colleague of mine two and we still got "you might not have permission to perform this task" when we opened the console ..

This really does the trick well ... but yea - it is annoying that Microsoft makes so many things dependened on AD.

We been to a storage convention from our partners and the storage senjors and backup senjores from Microsoft were there too ...

They only explanation why DPM needs Active Directory is "needed for security" which is rubbish considering that you can even install SQL mirror in a workgroup and use certificates instead which is just as secure ..
