Subnetting info on Sec+.?

c-loc-lo Member Posts: 4 ■□□□□□□□□□
I have taken a few practice exams recently..mostly online, but a couple through a local training center. There was one at the training center that had more than a couple of questions related to subnetting..? That seemed weird as I have not seen that in any other practice test at all. It is not even listed as one of the exam objectives. I can see having that in the Net + exam, but not sec +.
Anyone that has taken and passed the exam- are there any subnetting questions on there??

I take my test on Monday, but I can subnet in my head.......
If you need help about any particular subnetting shortcuts, ask away.

I use an online subnetting quiz-tool that aided me being able to do this, in conjunction cisco press books:

    Subnetting Quiz #1
    Subnetting Quiz #2 (CIDR)

I don't recall any subnetting... Then again its been a while since I took that exam. If there is subnetting, it would most likely be minimal. Regardless, its not a bad thing to know anyway.

    Short answer: No subnetting.

Subnetting is not included in any of the Seucurity+ objectives (either SY0-101 or SY0-201). I've never taught subnetting in any Security+ class I've taught and I have never had any student come back saying they had subnetting questions.

(Some students do occassionally get tested on something that isn't in the course curriculum and come back and ask me about it. These discussions and subsequent research results in me adding supplementary material for the next class, but again, it never happened with subnetting.)

I agree with Megadeath that it's not a bad thing to know, especially for someone that will work as an IT administrator, or desktop support specialist, but you won't need it for this exam.

I completely agree that it is good to know, and I do know some..but, I was not planning on getting into it too much for this exam. just thought it kinda weird to be on the practice exam since it was not in the class or exam objectives. We did a brief overview of subnetting in Net+..but, I don't recall it being on the Net+ exam either. strange.
I assume it'll be much more prevalent in CCNA exams.

If you plan on getting Cisco certifications after Security+, you will have to master subnetting.

Each person sometimes can develop their own method to "subnetting in their head", but whatever method you choose, make sure it's right 100% of the time :)

I've been studying for Security+ for about 4 weeks now.

    28th @ 8am I take it.
