You share a folder on your computer and you assigned the share permission Change to Everyone. John, a user from the Sales department, has been granted Full Control NTFS permission to the folder. John is also a member of the Sales group, which has been assigned Read NTFS permissions.
What are John's effective permissions when connecting to the shared folder?
a. Read
b. Read & Execute
c. Change
d. Full Control

combine ntfs and shares I get his effective permissions to be read

read is his ntfs permissions from the Sales group which is the most restrictive in this scenario. The prac exam answer is c. change........why?

    nevermind.................I was looking at it wrong.

    ntfs added permissions = fc

    shares = change

    most restrictive = change

    This is starting to become one of the best questions I've written cause many have asked the same question before... and has been explained in this forum previously, several times. icon_wink.gif

    I noticed you got it figured out already, but I just wanted to add:

    You have to combine the effective NTFS permission with the effective share permissions. I.o.w. you need to figure out the effective NTFS permissions and the effective share permissions before you combine them.

    Yes, good question......I'm sure many people have had the same confusion with permissions. I know I did.

    i've asked before the same question, but i now i know the technique

    Full + Read = Full NTFS effective
    Change = Change Share

    Full NTFS + Change Share = Change is the most restricted
