I haven't read it, but you might want to give this a shot: Amazon.com: Professional Penetration Testing: Creating and Operating a Formal Hacking Lab (9781597494250): Thomas Wilhelm: Books
Amazon.com: Build Your Own Security Lab: A Field Guide for Network Testing (9780470179864): Michael Gregg: Books is another one. I wrote the five-star review. I can't believe only 5 of 7 found it useful
Honestly, I'd try to be a bit more specific in what you're looking for. All of those are very broad fields that have numerous excellent reads. I'd read over the CEH Exam Prep book or Penetration Tester's Open Source Toolkit before I tackle the Hacking Exposed book. It's awesome, and I'm going through it at the moment, but it can get pretty technical. -

Very good book. Have read it twice.
Amazon.com: Hacking Exposed Wireless: Wireless Security Secrets & Solutions (9780072262582): Johnny Cache, Vincent Liu: Books - excellent book.
And on Santa's list:
Amazon.com: CWSP: Certified Wireless Security Professional Official Study Guide (Exam PW0-204) (9780470438916): David D. Coleman, David A. Westcott, Bryan Harkins: Books -
L0gicB0mb508 Member Posts: 538The Micheal Gregg book is definitely a good pick up for a beginner. Art of Deception is also a pretty good read. If you want a fun book to read that should definitely be taken with grain of salt, check out 2600: A Hacker's Odyssey. Counter Hack would be another good book to pick up.I bring nothing useful to the table...

Thats the thing, I like it all! I am hoping to read up more on these broad areas to learn what my true niche interest is. Your mention of the CEH makes me want to get my hands on the book. I have to keep up with my Security+ reading for now though... -
veritas_libertas Member Posts: 5,746 ■■■■■■■■■■Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I have read The Art of Deception, Hacking Exposed 6, and read a little of the 2600 Odyssey. All good reads for sure. Since we are on the subject of great reads, does anyone know of a good book on straight TCP/IP? Are these books any good? I have been thinking of buying them. I read a little of one while I was at Barnes and Noble.

Yeah, I am glad I found this forum. I try to pass it on to anyone who will actually listen. Forums have a bad rep over all I think. -
