Woot Got a Job

If anybody remembers me saying I got hired by a pretty big Defense Contractor but then they had a hiring freeze?

Well I got the call this morning and they said the hiring freeze was lifted and if I am still interested I needed to retake my drug test and once they get that back I can start working.

OMG I am so relieved, I was having pain of a time finding something else and was really trying for that Government help desk job just for stability. But now I will be working as an ISSO (Information Systems Security Officer) which sounds a lot better than help desk.

Pretty much I will be auditing systems that come online for some Army Future Combat Systems and Army Battlefield Computer Simulations projects this defense contractor has the contract for. I will be working at their corporate headquarters rather than some remote location which I am used to so it means more stability for me because they get all their projects there first.

When I interviewed for the spot back in June they said I had to be flexible because security wise I would be auditing everything, I had to interview in front of their security team first which I aced because I had my CISSP exam scheduled two days later so the stars were aligned for that interview.:)

I think it will be 50/50 Technical-Administrative. So pretty much my cert plans have changed now. I have to go to Cisco/Army training for two months in January for the National Guard so I will do my CCNA which they are paying for but I am going to schedule my CISA in June pretty much because of this job.

What makes me really happy is since this job paid more than my last job we can save up more for our eventual move out of state some day but I can also relocate within the company since they have assignments all over the world. But it also pays a lot more than unemployment does since I lost my job two weeks ago.

I have an active clearance already due to my National Guard MOS.

Wow, it's great that you were only unemployed for two weeks. With the way things are right now, I think that's pretty awesome. Congrats on the new job. It's great to hear the success stories during these hard times.
