I've enjoyed following this story. Looks like they buckled under fear of Google/FCC. They treated that small development company terribly; I'm glad to see this happen. I love my iPhone, but I hate Apple.

So basically you could just get a cell phone with a data plan and not even bother with voice plans, right?

lol, I was thinking something along these lines too. Isn't cell phone quality bad enough as is?

It's for use on WiFi so you don't use your minutes. Well, I think that's the intended use. I'm sure some idiots will try to use it over 3G icon_lol.gif

I'm not going to use it. Apple/AT&T have been ****'s about some of this app stuff, and I'm just glad to see them opening up a bit (although the original developer got screwed and Google had to step in).

    Right -- it's a Win-Win.

The people who haven't been able to get consistent 3G service and are already hanging out in coffee shops to use the Wi-Fi will b*tch less now about their poor Internet connections and dropped calls.

And AT&T won't have to spend as much $$$$ to upgrade their network to meet the demand.
