Hyperterminal replacement

Normally XShell seems to work fine, but when configuring an Axstor SAN it freezes.
Terra Term doesn't work well either so at the moment I am using a trial of Hyperterminal Private Edition which is a bit expensive ($60) considering how often you need that ..
Does anyone know another solution which is maybe even free

PuTTY should work. I have started using that now that I'm on Win 7, which doesn't have hyperterminal.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -

SecureCRT is the best, though if you think $60 is a lot then $140 would be out of the question. -

Meh - doesn't do serial tabs, but good enough anywayMy own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

What's not working with Terra Term for you? It's my favorite HyperTerminal replacement.

It doesn't display correctly on the Acstor SAN
Mind you, I am using a USB > Serial adapter. But I can get an APC or Cisco switch output just fine on Terra Term, but regardless of the setting, it just doesn't play ball on Axstor ..My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

Are you sure that you don't just have the baud rate or terminal emulation set incorrectly?

100% sure. I instantly thought the baud rate is wrong as the funny characters are normally a sign for it. But I quadruple checked everything .... just doesn't work with Terra .. again - ONLY on the Axstor SANs as our APCs using the exact same Serial settings and that works ok ..My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

If it's not software then it's hardware. Bad serial port, cable, or USB-to-serial adapter then.

But like I mentioned earlier - it works with Putty using the same hardwareMy own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

Hmm. I'm with JDMurray on this one. There isn't that much that a terminal emulator does for serial connections. If you've got the correct baud rate, stop bits and number of data bits it generally works. The only thing I can think of is that Hyperterminal is getting confused by some control characters and going into some weird emulation. -

The old TeraTerm you are using must have some bugs in it then. Try TeraTerm Pro Web 3.1.3.

I use RealTerm for my terminal program now that I've made the switch to Windows 7.
