NDA & Sharing Information on a Website

Hey Guys,

I'd like to know if I would run into legal issues if i were to open a blog site that talks about my daily troubleshooting/skills throughout the day. Basically i'll be posting what i learn and tips/tricks from the experience i gain on a daily basis.

Do any of you guys own a blog site and found it safe to keep one without breaking any contracts with your employer?

What is your contract state you can/cannot do? Depending on the conditions, you may wish to discuss it with them or get an attorney to review.

And if you desire to do a blog? Why not do it on behalf of the company you work for? That way you can still be 'out there', but you maybe can spread good PR for your company.

If you have signed an NDA then you must talk with the organization that owns the NDA to check if what you want to do is a violation or not. It's best not to try and walk along the edge of a contractual restriction.

Even if you haven't signed an NDA, be careful what you say in the public arena. One of our techs went on a rant about some of the technical issues that one of our customers presented. That blog entry found itself linked on a very popular forum that, not only the customer, but our boss frequents.

The tech in question had a not so pleasant sit down conversation with said boss about how he was never going to do that again.
