I have a job, but I am actively looking for a new one.

My company decided they should begin off-shoring as much IT as possible. I've been told my job is safe, but I don't like waiting around to find out it isn't.

Safe for the moment perhaps. But who knows. You may actually be quite safe. Just do the usual self preservation things inhouse and keep an eye out on pastures new incase the wrong pie chart appears in the latest big ideas meeting.

Stands up in the room and says "I work in IT and I'm looking for a job....."

    sits down again.....

Actually to be fair, I have a job, but am looking but then I believe in keeping one eye on the market for oportunities. For those people out of work I am aware the market is flat and I feel for you guys.

Turgon, how far afield are you looking ? Are you getting calls for roles that your applying for?
if I say something that can be taken one of two ways and one of them offends, I usually mean the other one :-)

UK and Europe wide. There are calls. It's just a bit slow. Internally getting sign off on budget for projects is a bit of a problem within many companies right now and without money there is no way to pay contractors you may wish to hire. With the economy as it is many senior managers are reticent to put their cock on the block to approve capex on expensive projects right now. I will be back in work soon enough. Rates are down too. Many folks looking for work. Fun.

I've been looking for a new job since Christmas. Very stagnant where I am and the frustration can be quite stressful at times. Can always be worse though.

On the upside I have spent the year studying the company network and have nearly attained my MSCE. Still, really need a challenge and a career push.

I'm currently employed but am also looking for new opportunities.

Due to certain political circumstances, I'm unable to do about 50% of my job. My managers are scrounging for other projects for me to get on while they deal with the political blockage.

Rather than wait this out (who knows how it will turn out), I'm looking for something new, exciting and challenging!

I'm in Perth, also internationally known as Dullsville. There's a few jobs advertised for Network engineers. Couldn't really say what the situation is in the eastern states.

It isnt too much better in Melbourne either. Had a look on seek.com.au the other day, not more than 4-9 Systems jobs advertised any given day. Problem is, the number of folks applying for jobs has increased manifold. I am very thankful that I have a fairly good job.

I'd say it's better to have a rounded-off skill set these days here, such as a mix of Cisco and MS. Hope the market picks up a bit when you hit our shores. Where are you planning to live, laidbackfreak?

I'm looking for a new position.

My current employer basically refuses to pay me what im worth. They claim theyve been working on getting me a raise, but discussions on the matter started in February and nothing has changed.

Bad new is with the economy in the pooper there are even fewer jobs here than normal, and this city normally doesnt have a lot of IT jobs open anyway.

I was laid off back in Feb. and have been looking for full time employment since then. All I have been successful at doing is contract work for majority of the time.

I've been waiting to start a new contract for the last 7 weeks, i'm waiting for a general manager to approve the contract and thats the only feedback i get.I have some contacts regarding other work but have been holding out contacting them.
Looking on the jobsites everyone seems to want R&S along with voice.I plan on going to Europe mid next year so i think the ccvp will open up more opportunities than a ccie in r&s.
As of yesterday i've started studying cvoice and i'm enjoying it, if the job i'm holding out on comes about i'll be back to the R&S stuff.
Networking, sometimes i love it, mostly i hate it.Its all about the $$$$

I've been looking since I graduated in August. So far, I've been doing short term temp contracts. The last one I did has asked me to come back for a longer possibly 6 month temp to hire position. It's a help desk job, which is not what I'm looking for, but I guess it's better than nothing so I'm starting tomorrow while I wait for something better to come along.

I believe the Dow Jones hit 10000 points yesterday. Anyone think the recession is over?
