Router simulator

my budget is tight now so I can't but the real routers and switches which router simulator should I look at.

    I would recommend Packet Tracer or Dynagen GNS3.

    How can I get packet tracer without be enrolled in a cisco course.

    You can buy a 1700 series Cisco router for like $50 shipped on Ebay. You can get a 2600 for probably not much more. I'd rather spend $50 on a real router than $50 on a sim any day. Hell at $50/each you can buy two and go at it. The only reason I'm recommending real hardware is because I used sims for the CCNA for the longest time and had a lot of problems (commands not working right, not even existing, outdated, etc). When I got some real devices it all made sense.

    You can't get it legally without going to Cisco NetAcad or being a NetAcad alumni.

    GNS3/Dynamips requires you to have IOS images for the supported platforms which again isn't legal.

    Cisco Press sell the CCNA 640-802 Network Simulator which is similiar.
