With my new EDA cert and my background in SQL Server this would be really friggin cool... I have been in my last few spots less than a year, though. Hmmm.

I think in missing the correlation on that job posting.

It sounds like 2 totally different jobs. Why would SQL and web applications be needed to image machines?

They are looking for a system to integrate with the deployment tools for tracking images, setting, etc. I imagine they are trying to create some sort change mgtmt/web service portal.

It would appear that I now have some extra incentive to take the 680 exam. I failed the 680 beta by less than 20 points. Maybe after this semester I will pick up a book and study during the holidays, before the next semester starts up.

When do we actually get the score reports for these tests? I haven't got one for either the 685 or the 686 yet?

This seems a bit odd to me. Why don't they just use SCCM to deploy Win 7?. Plus the job only pays $25 a hour. No way I would do something like for 25 a hour. Maybe double that.

Considering I am writing SQL Queries, programming in C#, creating WSS work flows, etc for $18.00, I would be very happy with $25

I am certainly willing to work for less to get the experience with SQL I need.

It's on mine, and shows the date I achieved it as last Saturday when I passed 70-680, so I got the EA and EDA7 on the same day. :)

Wow, I cant believe you are that underpaid given your qualifications.

I failed. Studying for an hour was probably not enough, but at least I passed 685 somehow.

I got mine as well and also passed the 70-680 last week, so one more MCITP in the bank. Still too bad we'll need the HDI elective for the EDST.

like others are saying i am not concerned with HDI since it is not in the scope of my cert career path. i will chaulk the 685 & 686 up to experience.

Like I said, I am willing to take this for the DBA experience and SharePoint development experience I'm getting. But I am willing to accept more money if the chance is presented to me.

I also don't think the company I am with is aware how IT can help drive their business decissions and provide better line of site into their critical business data. When I showed the plan manager the dashboards I was working on in SharePoint showing on-time deliveries vs late deliviers and various labor and work center statistics he nearly pooped his pants.

The problems I'm facing is that these people are so used to doing things the way they were done in 2000 that it's hard for me to get people to adopt them.

I'm also too busy helping people with stupid things to really do the high level stuff I want to. But hey, if they cannot visit the IT KB site to find out how to add a printer and need to have me hold their hands... Or if they don't know better than to not open an attachment to an eCard (as if the owner would send an employee an ecard) which then infects the computer with a virus that starts sending out so much spam it kills our VPN connection, and then gets our IP added to Barracuda network's spam blacklist, which then causes me to have to open a ticket with Barracuda and call partners asking them to white list us... well, that's just what I have to do.

HAHA welcome to IT! (even though i dont really know how long you have been in it, so dont take that negativly) One time someone in the marketing department, right after i walked out of the networking closet from patching fiber though, asked me if i knew how to unclog toilets! LOL since then when people ask me what i do, i say i am a certified janitor with a laptop...

I've gotten a few questions like that in my time, though not at this company. But I'm the kind of person that if my boss asked me to clean up the shopfloor before going home I would do it and would not think twice. Now if some one other than my boss asked me to unclogg a toilet, I would tell them to buzz off (not in those words, though) and that's why we have a maintenance staff.

But yes, I recall once getting a call at the help desk I worked at many years ago asking me to replace the electrical socket by the person's desk. The person nearly had a cow when I told her that her supervisor would have a maintenance request for that she needed to submit and that I could not do it. I finaly said "Ma'am, I am in Ohio, you are in New York. I have no idea which building you are in, where the building is located or how to get in touch with the electricians who would perform this task. If you would like me to lie to you and say I will submit the request, I will gladly do it. But you will certainly be disappointed when the problem is never fixed." I think she finally realized that I was not trying to push it off on her, but that I actually could not do what she was asking.

But other guys constantly got calls for stuff like clogged toilets. They would yell out "Toilets are down in building 52 on the 4th floor! Escelating to level number 2!"

I can totally relate on the having to help people with mundane tasks rather than working on higher level stuff that you should be doing.

Unfortunately the people I have to help with mundane tasks most often is our Tier 1 technicians. The majority of them have zero understanding on how to support users in an AD domain environment, no idea how to properly image using WDS, no idea how to service images offline, no idea how to set NTFS or share permissions, etc.

We have purchased products to support our AD infrastructure that have sat unused for the past 6 months, because I havn't had time to get them installed.

I do agree with you. I won't need the EDST and EDA for my career path either, so won't bother with the HDI. I wouldn't pass on a 'free' MCITP cert though, that's all I meant to say.
