31. You finally got your promotion and you are now the domain administrator for your company. All client computers run Windows XP Professional and are joined to a single Windows 2000 domain. The desktop administrator for your company asks you to help him with a problem. He just replaced a 17 inch CRT monitor of one of the client computers with a 15 inch TFT monitor. He installed a new driver and everything seemed to work fine.

Fifteen minutes later he received a call from the user who claimed he screen went blank after she increased the resolution to 1280x1024, which she used to have on the CRT monitor. She already rebooted her computer in an attempt to solve the problem. What should you advice the desktop administrator to solve the problem?
a. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode and reconfigure the display settings.
b. Reboot the computer in Enable VGA Mode and configure set the resolution to 1024x768.
c. Reboot the computer from the Windows XP Installation CD, and press R for the Recovery Console.
d. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode and use the Device Driver Roll Back option for the video adapter.

Answer(s): b. Reboot the computer in Enable VGA Mode and configure set the resolution to 1024x768.

If you boot into VGA mode, the workstation will boot normally but the display settings wil be reset to 4bit colours and a resolution of 640 x 480.

You will be able to re-set the resolution to one which the monitor will support.

    Mike,
A woman drove me to drink, and I didnt have the decency to thank her.
