At my company we have the chance to land a contract if we can use linux as a server with windows hosts. while i know that i can do file and print i need them to authenticate through my server and get all of their permissions through me. How is this done or can i get some links to read up on?
The thread itself is weak, its the weave that makes cloth strong.

Do you mean running linux servers in an Active Directory environment?
If so, most nix distros can generally bind to an AD domain (maybe just 2008, as its RFC 2307 compliant)
If you need group policies as well, I would look into Quest Authentication Services (formerly Vintella Authentication Services) -
