Ccna recertification

Hello guys

My CCNA Cert is due to expire in Aug 2010. I am planning to take 642-901 [BSCI] as my first step towards the CCNP Cert sometime in the next 4 months. My question is - will taking the BSCI exam renew my CCNA cert ? If yes, for how long will it be renewed and for how long does the BSCI score stand good before i attempt the remaining exams for CCNP ?

I have tried looking it up in Cisco's web page but unfortunately could not find anything useful. i am not sure if i am looking at the right section though.

On the CCNA Certification page

CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass the ICND2 exam, or pass the current CCNA exam, or pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice), or pass the current CCDA exam, or pass any 642 - XXX professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam.

So yes -- the BSCI exam is a 642-XXX exam and recertifies your CCNA for 3 years from the BSCI exam pass date. And each additional CCNP exam you pass will recertify your CCNA exam again, giving you a valid CCNA Certification for 3 years from the day you pass each CCNP exam.

You have 3 years from passing the BSCI exam to finish the rest of the CCNP exams. Otherwise your BSCI exam would "expire" and you'd have to retake it again. You can find this information on the the About Certification Exams web page.

Do certification exams expire?

• CCENT, Associate and Professional level 642 exams are valid for three years from the date the exam was passed. Specialist focused certification exams are valid for two years from the date the exam was passed.

• Placing expiration dates on exams ensures that candidates starting a multi-exam certification such as CCENT, CCNP, CCDP, CCVP, CCSP and CCIP, complete the program within a specified time-frame. By passing all of the required exams within the specified time period as noted above, candidates demonstrate that they are tested on current content. In situations where the period exceeds three years, candidates will need to re-take those exams that expire.
