I'm having trouble understanding the difference between WEP and WTLS.
I look at WAP as TCP/IP for wireless and see WEP and WTLS as an encryption protocol within WAP. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Note that although the confusion is logical: WEP and WAP are totally unrelated. -

Let me put it this way, let me know where I fault....
A>WEP encrypts data to provide data security.
B>WTLS is the security layer of WAP which provide authentication, encryption and data integrity.
Why would you need WEP if WTLS provides encryption?
Thanks

Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminWTLS provides security for WAP. You need WEP to provide security for IEEE 802.11x wireless networks, not for WAP.
Again, WEP has nothing to do with WAP.
I hope this helps,

I was having a hard time understanding WEP and WTLS also. Thanks for your insight. I still have a few questions just to clarify.
WTLS is used INSIDE the WAP for security. Correct?
If so, does it need to be configured, or is it out of the box this way?
WEP is encrption for the actual data transmission. Correct? Do you enable WEP on both Wireless NIC's AND the WAP?
Thanks!
