    Load up some VMs and play around. You can setup multiple sites, domain hierarchies, configure group policies with clients, etc.

    I would say snag a copy of Sun's Virtual Box, Windows 2008 and Windows 7. For those with honestly no experience, you are going to have a big hurdle of concepts work through.

    What's your background?

    Ideally what you need to go is get a book on 70-640 and work slowly through it. Simulaneously you probably want to look into the MCITP: Enterprise Support technician cert.

    VMWare is the answer. Load a server and a xp client and your on your way. AD is not a simple think to learn and either is running a AD infrastructure either. Take your time get a book or two. Stick with xp and 2003 i would not do 2008 server or windows 7. Companies are still running xp and 2003 servers.
