What is this "so-called" Christmas Bonus you speak of? haha

Our Christmas / Holiday bonus is that you still have a job.

I think what I look forward to most each holiday season since we don't get a bonus, is the big tin of cookies CDW likes to send to customers.

Spent 15 years in NHS where you never get a bonus then left to join Huge outsourcer corporate and thought, now I will get one of those bonus things I always heard about.

First year, no bonus but a £160 pay rise. Second year, £160 bonus and no pay rise. This year, not a sausage !

These mega bonuses are mainly for sales types (these guys get mega bonuses if they do well) or small companies.

Unfortunately, I am really, really, really bad at sales. My only ever sales job, soon as I found out I got a 20% staff discount, I was on the till and giving every customer 20% off if they smiled and said hello. I was sacked from the company half hour after they found out what I was doing... Manager nearly fainted when the senior till supervisor told them what I was doing.... I was only 16 at the time. It was over priced cr.p though.

    Hookers and blow.

I think I got 200 last XMas, 500 before, most ever was 1k. We'll find out soon what this years is pretty soon. I just spent 50k on licenses though (out of compliance - sucks to be the messenger) and have only been there 6 months so prospects don't look great.

We get a Christmas party where everyone gets totally smashed and I find out how feral my work colleagues actually are.

I'm from a small town so it doesn't phase me, but still, I've really moved on from that kind of behaviour.

Man, I kind of feel bad responding after seeing all the down-trodden responses thus far. Our bonuses are given quarterly, and they range from $1-4k based on performance ($2k being average). Previous jobs have done nothing, $100-250 in gift cards, and $500-750 in cash.

I worked for a place that gave quarterly bonuses a while back, but the pound of flesh you'd have to give in return didn't make the (potential/mythical) $2,000 worth it. Most of the time, they'd look for any and all excuses to slash it down to a couple of hundred bucks and a steaming cup of kiss-my-ass.

The last job I had they couldn't afford to give bonuses, but would do fun stuff like take the staff out to see a (geeky) movie when the staff had put in a lot of work, or do a party in the office followed by a few days off. They'd also grant a couple of paid days off if you'd been busting your butt for a while, so getting a four or five-day weekend was regular practice if you'd put in a couple of weeks of working late or weekends to finish a project.

I found out last week we get Christmas cash bonuses based on how many years you have been with the company. Since I just started mine gets pushed back until next year.

Technically Maryland is in the South.

As far as bonuses are concerned, much of my career I spent working for a company where up to 35% of my entire salary was disbursed as a lump sum in a end of year bonus. My range over the years was anywhere from 80% of eligibility, all the way up to 150% of eligibility. It wasn't a "Christmas Bonus" per se, but it came around Christmas time.

I worked at a company who based it on how long you'd been with them. That was a great company.

We received a prorated bonus (From $120) this year. I ended up with $65. We also received a very nice company t-shirt.

500 it is! Plus a face grooming kit...I'd be offended if all the guys didn't get one.

Never had a job that gave out Xmas bonuses. Thought that was an urban myth.
