VLAN Issue - Real World Problem
control
Hi,
This is concering a setup at work. I won't be the one trying to resolve this but I would like info on what we should be looking for etc..
We have a Windows Server attached to our standard cisco switch, and a VLAN has been specifically setup to contain this server for security purposes. The server has a static IP Address.
An access list has been created also for that VLAN.
I need this server to be able to access the Internet. All other standard PC's on the main network access the Internet via our company proxy server.
Now I know there is not much info here and this is what I need help. What sort of obvious things should we be looking at here? Feel free to ask any questions for further info.
Thanks

Default gateway. The server needs to point to a Layer 3 interface (the vlan interface) for its gateway. From there, it should be able to reach where ever you internet/proxy is.

If there is a single connection to the router, ensure that it is a trunk and that you have sub-interfaces w/ IP addresses that correctly connect to your internal networks.
Ensure that you have a NAT statement that will include the server.
Make sure that you have a separate subnet configured on the server (separate from any other network you have).
If you need access to the server from the outside configure a Static NAT statement, or Port translation if you only want port 80 (web) traffic to hit it.

So what's the issue? Have you tried pointing it to the proxy?
