Trunk and access port question
Okay so I know the difference between an access port and a trunk port. Being kinda new I saw this config and wondered if this really works.
Interface gi 0/1
switchport access vlan 5
switchport trunk encap dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 6
switchport mode trunk
Can you have an access vlan on a trunk port and it works?
Thanks!

OptionsGT-Rob Member Posts: 1,090the switchport access command is left on there in case this port every becomes an access port (say, through DTP). But since you are hardcoded to trunk, it really doesn't do anything, since the trunk will just take any vlan (and tag untagged packets with the native vlan).
So its more for when the trunk is set to auto. -
