As for the preparation material, the Microsoft Press books do a decent job for most of the exams, but you might want to use the Syngress book for the 297 and 293 exams. You must have a lab at home to practice on. I think a trial version of Windows Server 2008 is still available for free download at download.microsoft.com. The Microsoft books come with MeasureUp practice exams on the accompanying disks. If you have some money to spend, the CBT Nuggets and the Transcender practice exams are a worthwhile investment. -

jojopramos Member Posts: 415Welcome to Techexams, apputpr. Since you are new to Microsoft Certification, start on a client exam (70-680 - Windows 7). It is possible to self study if you have the right books (MS Press Book/Syngress) and a home lab (consist of a couple of computers and switch /or a high-end computer installed with VirtualPC/VMware). If you are already working, then it is easier as you already have the experience. Most of us have IT jobs, so self study is much easier because of experience and accessible network/computer equipment. The important thing is focus on what you are studying.

Welcome to TechExams forum. There are alot of knowledgeable people here and this site is a great reference, motivational and a good guide to helping you pursue your IT goals of certifications and knowledge of the vast IT world.
If you want to pursue the 2003 MCSE I would suggest the following material which will all help (Not all for these are needed but the more sources the better). I like to have one source from each area as I will discuss below.
Video ( These are good to get you an overall and see exam topics being covered and listening and watching an instructor demonstrate some of the test topics.)

Last but not least build a home lab as close as you can to real world so you can learn. You will learn setting up the lab and testing stuff you are learning about like build out a DC and a member server and a workstation so you can test DNS, DHCP, IPsec etc. I labbed everything I could for my MCSE and learned a ton and was fully prepared when going to take tests. You can use VMware workstation, Microsoft virtual PC, ESXi or ESX for a lab environment or you can use physical hardware as well. Labbing is critical so you are not memorizing facts and questions and not having hands on real experience so you can figure out the answer no matter what they throw at you because you have configured it before.
That all being said you may want to consider going for the 2008 MCITP instead in case by the time you have all the 2003 server tests done you are working more on 2008 servers. I guess this would be influenced in where you work and what servers they are using that you want to administrator. Hope this helps.
