Inside Sales Rep: What exactly is it?

I plead ignorance on this, but can someone tell me what exactly does an Inside Sales Representative do? Does it mean business to business sales?

I've never had a sales job, so I don't know.

Usually inside sales refers to sales that are done entirely internally: over the phone, through the web, etc.., without meeting customers face-to-face.

It does not specifically mean that the sales are between businesses or otherwise.

Basically, an inside sales rep is a phone jockey of the sales world with a quota for closing sales.

However, it's one of those terms that often means different things in different organizations.
