When to use Windows Easy Transfer?

Hi all, been missing from here from a while!
Was reading the 70-680 book and wanted to ask, when do I use the Windows Easy Transfer method?
My understanding upgrading from Vista to 7 retains all settings. So is the WET method used from going from XP to 7?
Thanks all and have a nice weekend!

You wouldn't use WET or USMT for an in-place upgrade since as you said, the upgrade process retains the settings. You would use them for wipe-and-load (re-imaging or reformatting) and side-by-side (replacing the hardware) deployments. You would use USMT and not WET for lite-touch (MDT) or zero-touch (MDT plus SCCM) deployments.MentholMoose
