need help in clocking and synchronization..

hi there..Im a bit unclear about this concept ..Hope someone would help..
ethernet standard specifies manchester encoding tech..coz it provides synchronization by inverting signal level at the middle of each bit..
But Im not able to visualize this idea ..What does it actually mean by "sender and receiver synchronize their clocks ??" And if they once synchronize their clock at the start of communication ..How does it go out of sync when there's a series of same bits.. ? Please help me visualize the concept.. Thanks in advance ..

The graphic in the wikipedia article on Manchester Coding shows it the way I remember learning it in the old Cisco Network Academy courseware -- but it's not something you need to know for the Certification exam(s).

How would you maintain clocking if you wanted to send data that contained 1 million 1-bits in a row if all you did was hold the voltage high for a bunch of time?

The sample in that picture shows the transition clearly with those 3 1-bits in a row.
