System Admin certs for developers

Hi all, first time poster here. I'm currently a young Java developer with a couple of Sun certifications, and I'm wondering if there's any benefit to pursuing a System Admin cert because I feel like working with OS internals is one of my weakest areas. Is there anyone here from a development background who found a Linux or Microsoft Windows cert helpful?

I'm looking into the Linux options (RHCT??...) as this would complement my development background the best, but I would welcome the input of anyone with development background who did (or is thinking of doing) the Microsoft path as well.

I feel like learning Linux inside and out now would be extremely beneficial for any number of computing career paths I might continue on, but I'm finding it difficult to get anything other than a piecemeal background solving my personal little bugs. A cert would force me to become well-rounded, but I'm a little concerned about a bias against certifications in the development community.

Sorry if I posted this in the incorrect forum, Dan.
