Seems like you are very eager to learn networking. Although we dont mind answering "Most" of your questions, we can probably go on for ever with this post. I am not trying to be mean but it wont do you any good if we always hand you the answers. That is something we all learn when we start off with networking and something us more experienced engineers will tell you. Try to research the subject , learn it, memorize it, practice it, apply it. If you still dont get it then we will be more than happy to help you understand it.

For starters you can look into the CCENT ICND1 exam by cisco. Then try and study for the CCNA ICND2 exam.

CCNA - Career Certifications & Paths - Cisco Systems

Amazon.com: CCNA Official Exam Certification Library (Exam 640-802), Third Edition (Containing ICND1 and ICND2 Second Edition Exam Certification Guides) (9781587201950): Wendell Odom: Books

The CCNA library is only 40 dollars , it is a lot of very informative information that will answer most of your questions, you cant ask for a better price and return value, for 40 dollars.
    Certs: CISSP, EnCE, OSCP, CRTP, eCTHPv2, eCPPT, eCIR, LFCS, CEH, SPLK-1002, SC-200, SC-300, AZ-900, AZ-500, VHL:Advanced+
    2023 Cert Goals: SC-100, eCPTX

I know it sounds crazy, but I do an insane amount of studying. The books seem to assume you know certain things sometimes. And others it just leaves out the specific details that can paint a whole picture in the minds eye.

I mean I've read a Network + book straight through. I've got 3 CCNA books. This language, material and the logic involved is very tough to understand.

I dont come on here to get all the answers. I just need "specific" questions answered to help me understand what I already do know. Because obviously I cant call up the author or ask the book questions. It only answers what is already printed.

And by the way I start a CCENT class next week and take my Network + Exam in about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the help though guys!! I really appreciate it! seriously! Mike you've been alot of help bud! Thanks again!!

Thats a great step in the right direction, do not be overwhelmed by the cisco stuff. Everyone one of us including myself started where you were. I remember walking by the network engineers office and see the command line and just be totally overwhelmed when they would do a "sh run" command and hit space bar several times and find exactly what they were looking for. To me it was a bunch of text scrolling in a command prompt that i normally used to issue the PING command lol! 5 years later I am a network engineer and believe me I am on the other side of the fence now. It just takes time and practice thats all. I myself still have a lot to study as you can see by my goals this year in my signature. All we can do is set goals in life and try to obtain them. I wish you luck on your Network+ exam in 2 weeks! and have fun with your CCENT class, some of the network plus stuff should carry over, but the cisco ccent stuff is in a genre all on it own, compared to the network + exam.

I must say that he's touched on a fair point. Cisco literature is awful for the use of assumed knowledge that it has no good reason to expect from the reader.

If it weren't for the aid of some other, more experienced networking bods my studies would never have made it out the gate. Only once you reach a certain, albeit low, level of competancy do the books actually become useful. I almost got the impression that Cisco doesn't want to many people to understand it all.

If you are studying your CCNA for example it is going to assume you have knowledge upto the cert you are studying for.

If there is a point or something you don't understand - just ask your friend (google that is).

Before I started my Cisco studies I read a book called "Introducing Cisco" or something like that. There is out now a similar book called: "Cisco - A Beginner's Guide - Third Edition"
    Currently studying:
CCIE R&S - using INE workbooks & videos

    Currently reading:

Well talking about random internet resources I've found wiki to be of reasonably high quality. I'm specialised in a few disciplines to the point where I feel comfortable judging the accuracy and depth of sources and wiki don't often disapoint although their focus isnt always 100%.
