FINALLY passed HHT1 after 3 submissions. That was a bear. This was the first class that almost demotivated me to the point of not being able to progress. I find very little that is interesting about math, even in the practical, for the average Joe sense. It took me over a month just to complete this one course. I was taking the Security classes simultaneously, but could not even focus on those classes because I knew in the back of my mind I had to get this HHT1 essay right.

Well, it's all done and I can finally move on. No more math for me. My next hurdle is getting through the incredibly dry resources for Security. I was watching the videos from TrainSignal because they're up to date for the latest CompTIA exam, but they are BORING! She literally just reads from a PowerPoint presentation. The CBT Nugget videos are really outdated and I'm not the book reader when it comes to IT material. Love my videos. I think I've just been spoiled on Jeremy's style and love Networking, so it's so much easier to study.

Keep pressing on everybody. My mentor says, that if I keep up this pace, I'll have my degree in a year and a half. Woot!

The math was the worst part of it for me too. HHT1 and GAC1 were my longest classes. The rest of the classes went much smoother for me :)

So I finished the readiness assessment and I'm sure I did great on that. How long does it usually take to get your grade from that or hear back from them?

Do they actually tell you how well you did in each section? I'm genuinely curious, or do they just say pass/fail?

I just have to say thank you to everyone who's answered my questions. Going to WGU will be the second best thing I've done in/for my life and everyone on these forums are a huge help. :)

Just showed a green check mark for me with a pass. :)

Is CVV1 a multiple choice exam? What about the other MTA exams? I assume they are but couldn't find the information to verify.

Yes. CVV1 is a multiple choice exam. I believe it is 30 or 35 questions, not very long.

As for the MTA it varys from test to test. the MTA:SEC, MTA:OS, and MTA:NET were all 35 questions and I can vouch (pun intended) for that

Feeling accomplished! Thank you to my referrer! I have started the application process and just finished all four of my assestment tests. Since its nearly 9pm on Sunday i don't expect an immediate response, I will check back tuesday to see my results.

You actually get the responses fairly quickly, I had mine in about 10-15 minutes each.
  • theanimaltheanimal Member Posts: 77 ■■□□□□□□□□
It took me about a day and a half to get my responses back. I can't wait to get my GI Bill stuff in order and finish with the financial aid so that I can get the ball rolling and start learning.icon_study.gif

I know the answer to my question is probably within this thread, but I was hoping someone could chime in quickly on what degree from the "college of IT" would provide the most employment and job stability/security in the future. I am leaning towards either Network or Software. Thanks

It's not what you want to hear, but only you can answer that. You've basically asked, "What should I do for a living?"

Trends change like the wind. What is hot today, might be hotter tomorrow or faded into the dust.

You just need to do some research on types of job in IT. Then weed through those and figure out what you are interested in.

Thanks for the input. Yes, you are certainly right, I should do more research on this matter. Let me start by saying, I am totally new to IT, never held a desk job or computer gig for that matter. I graduated with a degree in Microbiology back in 2009. Just recently I heard good things about WGU, but as I understand there are various degrees available in the college of IT.

Although, I have no real world experience, I do have above average knowledge in both computer hardware and software. Every computer I've owned have been built from scratch, I have also set up small home network for friends and family. I also recently got certified in software testing (ISTQB). So I've been really pondering lately, searching for a career change, and since I do have a little aptitude in computers figured I give WGU IT program a try. Anyway, just wanted to hear from any graduates from WGU have success in employment. Thanks

    Guide to Performance Assessments.

A lot of people for some reason get bent out of shape on these. Performance Assessments are actually fairly simple if you break it down. Here are a few tricks I have learned that can help you get through these without putting more or stress than you need to.

*please note, I am not advocating that you rush you classes. Its in your best interest to read the material or go through you course of study. This is just for your Performance Assessments.

TIP 1: Keep formatting simple and the same through all your papers.
When working on a task, each part that has a letter (A. B. C. D. ETC) can be the title of the page. Each part of those Letter tasks can be the there own subheadings (1. 2. 3. 4. ETC). Keeping it this simple format can make the personal review much faster and better organized overall. It will end up sometimes looking less like your tradition essays (when you are writing essays) but it doesn't really matter. Fun fact, when I started writing my papers this way my papers seemed to be graded faster and I always passed them. It seemed that it made my paper easier to grade and graders seem to like that. (I got plenty of comments like "excellent formatting" or "pleasure to read" from graders this way.)

TIP 2: The Rubric - the break down.
When a section of the rubric mentions "logical", its basically your own view or opinion of the material in question. As long as what you say makes sense at first glance, it doesn't even have to be technically correct. Logical parts of tasks are nothing to stress over and simply give your own honest answers.

When a section of the rubric mentions "defines", its only asking for a definition. Going to the ebook from the course of study and looking up the definition is all that you need to do. Again, nothing to stress over at all. You are often graded on detail, which in my experience is very broad. I have kept to at least 3 to 4 sentence definitions and I haven't had a single return doing this. With papers with lots of subtasks, you can get away with shorter definitions.

When a rubric mentions "x number of examples", obviously enough they mean x number of examples. Clearly state them and split them up to remove confusion. Simpler formatting pays off here.

    Tip 3: APA Sources/Citiations
Get word 2010. It has a little tab for creating citations and has a form you fill out that will format it correctly. It will then also generated a bibliography that you paste as well. Stop trying to memorize the formatting yourself. You can use this for nonword docs too by cutting and pasting out of word into whatever (usually powerpoint).

Also in addition to that, try this place out:
    Son of Citation Machine

It pretty much sets you up for victory. Paste+Copy+Paste simple as that :)

I am set to being my 1st term on November 1. I noticed that I have access to all of the courses and material. Is this normal?
I don't even have a mentor assigned yet but I thought they had to unlock the courses for you.
  • boredgameladboredgamelad Member Posts: 365 ■■■■□□□□□□
It's normal. Feel free to start studying early on your first class.
  • paulgswansonpaulgswanson Member Posts: 311
Yep that is very normal. You wont have access to certain things like Ucertify or be able to upload to taskstream until they assign it to you but you are definitly able to see everything in advance. :) Thats part of what I really enjoy. While I wait for my Mentor to assign things and approve tests I can just study in advance.
