Windows Vista/7 Problem. Desktop Files Disappear?

The files on my desktop disappeared.

Found the files in: C: -> Users -> My name -> Desktop

Dragged the files back to the desktop

Then restarted the computer

Turned it on. Can't be found anywhere now. It's no longer on desktop. It wasn't deleted.

Anyone experienced this problem? Who can provide a solution?

    When you say the files can't be found anywhere, does that include the Users\My Name\Desktop folder or are you just referring to the Desktop screen?

    Have you checked any desktop settings, such as right-clicking the desktop > View > Show Desktop Icons?

    Can't find the files in Users\My Name\Desktop Folder
    and
    The files (word documents/folder) I dragged to the desktop earlier are no longer there.

    But, other program shortcuts are there.

    I clicked on the start button to type the file name. It says cant access shortcut or something.

    I've heard of similar cases, but I haven't encountered it myself. The problem is most likely due to a corrupt user profile.
