Please Help Finish my Lab

Hi Guys, joined a while back after being a lerker and then didnt have much time because of university commitments but I am getting into the certification world again and wanting to complete my Cisco lab ready for CCNA study. If you could help me please iron out some pieces and fill in the cracks I havent thought of yet.

Lets go first with what I got:

2611 Router
Cisco IOS Software, C2600 Software (C2600-IPBASEK9-M), Version12.4(icon_cool.gif
Cisco 2611 (MPC860) processor (revision 2.2) with 59392K/6144K bytes of memory.
2 Ethernet interfaces
1 Serial interface
32K bytes of NVRAM.
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

2620 Router
Cisco IOS Software, C2600 Software (C2600-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.4(17)
Cisco 2620 (MPC860) processor (revision 6.0) with 62091K/3445K bytes of memory.
1 FastEthernet interface
1 Serial interface
32K bytes of NVRAM.
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

1721 Router
IOS (tm) C1700 Software (C1700-SY-M), Version 12.2(11)T2
cisco 1721 (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x100) with 26215K/6553K bytes of memory
1 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
2 Serial(sync/async) network interface(s)
32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

1721 Router
IOS (tm) C1700 Software (C1700-Y-M), Version 12.3(1a), RELEASE
cisco 1721 (MPC860P) processor (revision 0x100) with 24576K/8192K bytes of memory.
1 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
2 Serial(sync/async) network interface(s)
32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

2950 Switch
IOS (tm) C2950 Software (C2950-I6Q4L2-M), Version 12.1(11)EA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE
12 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
2 Gigabit Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
32K bytes of flash-simulated non-volatile configuration memory.

2900XL Switch
IOS (tm) C2900XL Software (C2900XL-C3H2S-M), Version 12.0(5)WC17, RELEASE SOFTWA.cisco.com/wwl/export/crypto/tool/stqrg.html
24 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
32K bytes of flash-simulated non-volatile configuration memory.

Now here is what I have queries about:

a) What is missing or what is not good enough?
b) What do you recommend I get?
c) Are the IOS's I have enough?
d) This kit should be only for CCNA - it didnt cost me much to put together (£200) to be exact - just patience off ebay! - so dont consider I will be using it for CCNP
e) I am getting dumb terminal cables for my WIC-1ts and i have the rest.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me out - I appreciate it!

All you need to complete the lab is a frame relay switch - get a cisco 2521, £25 from ebay.

You can pass your CCNA with this lab, if you get the 2521.

If you have a few extra £s, get a 26x0xm with 32MB flash & 128 RAM, to practice SDM & SSH.

thanks for that! Im looking to cover SDM and SSH so looking for a router to hold those: does it have to be of those requirements because I found a 1751 with c1700-advsecurityk9-mz.124-25b.bin image - is this good enough of is it the DRAM and Flash that is essential?

    question

    2 Serial(sync/async) network interface(s)

is this a 2 port serial wic or 2 seperate wics? Reason i ask is that if it happens to be a 2 port you can put 2 of them in 1 of the 2600 and use it as the frame switch as for CCNA the most frame devices you will likely see is 2 or 3.

Good question - sorry I wasnt clear the 1700's have 2 WIC-1t's in their slots and the 2600's have one WIC-1t in theirs. So in total I got 6 WIC-1ts.

Could you clear up what you saying? If I have 2 WIC-1ts in one of the 2600 this can act as a frame relay switch?

yes it would be very basic. it would be Router1>FRSW<Router2

the config is very simple also

    frame-relay switching
    !
    !
    interface Serial0/0
    no ip address
    encapsulation frame-relay
    no fair-queue
    serial restart-delay 0
    clockrate 64000
    frame-relay lmi-type ansi
    frame-relay intf-type dce
    frame-relay route 102 interface Serial 1/0 201
    no shut
    !
    interface Serial1/0
    no ip address
    encapsulation frame-relay
    serial restart-delay 0
    clockrate 64000
    frame-relay lmi-type ansi
    frame-relay intf-type dce
    frame-relay route 201 interface Serial 0/0 102
    no shut

you could add additional dlci on the ports pointing to each other

    am i right on this?

@keenon so you dont think i need a 2500 for Frame Relay?

    IMHO

If you can afford it, only extra £35 in p+p, then I would certainly recommend getting a 2521 just as a Frame switch.

As once the config is setup, it can just be left alone.

With that image on the 1751 you can practice SDM & SSH

missed out on that 1751 - I been looking for requirements for SDM and SSH all afternoon.. am I right in understanding its the image and not the memory that is important to have - If I get a router with 12.4 I might turn one of the 2600s into a Frame Relay switch? icon_wink.gif

Yep, it's the image that dictates what can and can't be run on a router, but how much memory a router has dictates what image you can run.

    You can get a NM-4A/S ( 4 serial ports) or a NM-8A/S ( 8 ports) for the 2600.

gutted I missed that 1700 now it only went for £20 with PP!! icon_sad.gif looked at NM slots they pricey WHEN found! icon_sad.gif 2521 can be bought for 35 quid..

    I know, that's why I recommended a 2521 and then just use the 2600 as a 4th router.

I have 2 1751s, use one as my home router & a bridge to the lab network, they are good little routers.
