Hey again to all of you in CCVP land. With my recent addiction to eBay as a result of putting together a lab, I have found myself awake at all odd hours of the night searching for routers, switches, modules, etc. Last night I stumbled upon an NM-HDV for $30. At that price I couldn't pass it up. I am completely new to voice studies, but have began studying for CVOICE and am starting to understand the basics. However, this NM-HDV is kind of an advanced module with advanced features. I'm sure I'll learn it eventually, but can anyone suggest a good way to become acquainted with it? Labs? Lab topologies? I'm assuming I'll run it as a DSP farm and gateway for conference calls and such. I plan to run it in my maxed 2650XM. In that router is there any way to run the NM-HDV and connect to the PSTN? I don't see a possibility of running an FXO card. Ill use a ATA 186 or 188 to hook up a couple FXS ports on the network under that 2650XM. I also plan to grab the VWIC-MFT-T1 card soon too. Does anyone else use these in home labs? What config do you guys run them in? I'm just looking to learn more about this cool piece of hardware. As always, thanks for all the input.

Does it have DSPs installed in it? If not, you'll want to pick up some PVDM modules before you put it to use. Pop in a multiflex VWIC and you can terminate a voice T1 (or E1 depending on the card that you pick up). Of course it would be nice to have a second router on the other end w/a voice T1/E1 as well so that you can actually send calls over the connection. It can also be setup for hardware conferencing later down the road when you start to play around with call manager.

To connect to the (actual) PSTN w/the 26xxXM you would need an NM-(1 or 2)V and an FXO card - The NM-HDV won't be much good for that, but it will come in handy if you ever build a simulated PSTN cloud.

To add to the previous reply, do your reasearch on the PVDM type before buying any as there are different ones out there. Nothing sucks more than buying a module that won't work with what you have.

Came with 4x PVDM12... the ones that are supported Can you explain a little more about how an NM-HDV will be helpful if I ran a PSTN cloud? I have a VG200 laying around here that I think would be perfect for those duties. Thanks for all the help.

any one can help , I have same thing and I don't know is it important for ccna/ccnp voice lab study or just NM-2V with FXO & FXS enough ??
