Where does Outlook Express save email to....

...in Windows 98. Trying to find the files with this Recovery software, but I have no idea where to look. Google isn't turning up anything relevant.

I don't know where it is stored in Win 98 but each folder in outlook express is a file on disk, i.e. Inbox = inbox.dbx and Deleted Items = Deleted Items.dbx

I believe it is like this:

Tools, Options. On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder

Different versions of Outlook Express uses different file extensions. Outlook Express 5 and 6 use .dbx files. Outlook Express 4 uses .idx and .mdx files.

(Sorry, but I don't remember off the top of my head where Win98 stores them.)

Usually somewhere like - Windows / Application Data / Microsoft /

Make sure you have hidden folders visable

I thought it was Windows/App Data/Outlook as well, but they weren't there.

I just did a search for all .dbx files and found all I was looking for.

Actually I goofed there - should be ...

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{random number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Just do a search for *.pst I believe that is Microsoft Outlook or *.dbx for Outlook express

Thanks Russ, at least I'll know for future reference. I actually searched for .dbx files right after I posted this. The first time around, the program didn't find any, but after I recovered lost files, it found them all. My mistake.
