Interested in CCNP

I was just wondering how much experience would the typical
CCNP student have and how would you guy's recommend before starting

It's all personal preference. I recommend you start now :P Just make the smart choice and start studying for the new material I would say probably do the ROUTE, SWITCH, TSHOOT option. Unless you think you can pass BCMSN or BSCI in 3 months.
