New computer > set password > forgot password

I know this should be an easy problem to fix. My niece just got a new computer with Windows 7 home on it. The second day she had it her daughter set the password and now she can't log onto the computer.
How can I reset/change the pw over the phone? She lives about an hour away.

She could try booting into the windows 7 disk and choosing system restore then try restoring to a point before that password was set. I think that would work.

It doesn't work in XP, though.
