12.4 and 12.4T EIGRP and IPV6 huh?

itdaddyitdaddy Member Posts: 2,089 ■■■■□□□□□□
hey guys

was reading wendell odem site on new CCNP and ipv6 not being
supported in IOS 12.4huh? I always thought Ipv6 worked with
EIGRP and OSPF and RIp as long as the router had 12.3-12.4 and
had the command ipv6 unicast-routing? what is the dilemma
with 12.4 T and EIGRP/IPv6 and 12.4 not having it???

thanks

12.4T - Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4T Features and Hardware Support [Cisco IOS Software Releases 12.4 T] - Cisco Systems

I see alot of IPv6 in there.

    In fact:
This is possible since the single EIGRP IPv4 routing table in the old network has been supplemented with an EIGRP IPv6 routing table in the new network. In this manner, the IPv4 and IPv6 networks operate in a dual stack or `ships in the night' mode. The new network offers users a seamless integration of their IPv4 and IPv6 networks while allowing them to retain all the benefits of using EIGRP.
Supportability of IPv4 and IPv6: The migration to IPv6 will be a gradual one and administrators will require the flexibility to keep both their IPv4 users and IPv6 users on the same network infrastructure at the same time. Hence, the network needs to be able to support both IPv4 and IPv6.
To solve the issue of integrating IPv6 into EIGRP based IPv4 networks, Cisco is offering support for EIGRP for IPv6.

I mean does 12.4 ios support EIGRP and IPV6??
I know 12.4T does I run 12.4 ios on my routers
and I do have ipv6 unicast routing. I just read somewhere
on Odems site that he says ipv6 and eigrp are not supported
under 12.4 IOS exclusively. I know 12.4T does I am not sure
    about 12.4 ios exclusively.

    thanks

yep you have to have 12.4T to have ipv6 unicast routing
4 of my 1760 routers can do ipv6 thank God!

the rest cannot do ipv6 anything no ipv6 unicast-routing available
that sucks! going to have to find some more higher end routers

Ah sorry, I didn't understand you correctly. Yeah I am sure when the IPv6 mess occurs many people will have to upgrade their equipment.

OMG yeah they will man people are going to be pissed. I mean I have some routers with 12.4 that cannot handle any higher than that.
Thank God I have 6 routers that can take 12.4T phew!!!!!

all my 1760s have 12.4T and my 2610xm can have the 12.4T

upgrading my 2610xm tonight. I want as many to have it....
    live and learn I guess!

but it is going to help cisco cash in I am sure...or have people buy other stuff icon_redface.gif

Depends on what platform you are looking at. My 3640's have a 12.4 image that has ipv6 routing.
