Hello Guys,
I currently have a full time position monday-thursday, but am looking for a part time position for friday sat and sunday which is not going so well. I'm applying everywhere with no success, and the ones that do call me back are for full time positions, which i specificaly specified that im only looking for PT. Does any one know the best place to apply for desktop support jobs for PT? Any info will be accepted.
Thanks,
Walt

You're local college might have a position open. Also, send those full time calls backs my way!Currently PursuingWGU (BS in IT Network Administration) - 52%| CCIE:Voice Written - 0% (0/200 Hours)mikej412 wrote:Cisco Networking isn't just a job, it's a Lifestyle. -
Devilsbane Member Posts: 4,214 ■■■■■■■■□□I find that there isn't a large demand for part time IT work. I was looking while going to school and had no luck. I think companies want to have you fully committed (40 hours a week) to the job before giving you access to their infrastructure. A part time employee would be much more prone than a full time employee to get upset and intentially break the system or to sell confidential information to a competing company.Decide what to be and go be it.

xenodamus Member Posts: 758I've worked for a small time mom/pop type of repair shop in the past that did alot of part time hiring. The main reason was $$$, of course, because they can't always afford to hire another full time technician. The down side is that these places may want you to work for peanuts.CISSP | CCNA:R&S/Security | MCSA 2003 | A+ S+ | VCP6-DTM | CCA-V CCP-V

tpatt100 Member Posts: 2,991 ■■■■■■■■■□I am scratching my head right now but a few years ago I agreed to work for a company part time only on the weekends doing pc rollouts when the business was closed. It was something like 25 an hour 12 hour shifts sat-Sunday once in a while.
I ended up not showing up due to a conference call with the team and I realized with National Guard being one weekend a month I would have very little time to do it.
Main reason I was going to do it was to save up more money for a bigger down payment on a car -

If you have experience then you may have a chance since a lot of people doing it on the weekends are probably already trying to get on as just weekday. Just my opinion. No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

Dryst999 Member Posts: 81 ■■□□□□□□□□I'm pretty lucky I guess, I start m-f next week at my new full time systems admin job and just talked my current company that i'm leaving to let me be their weekend support guy for saturday and sunday just doing help desk work. It's only like $12/hr but that's $150/week for literally taking one call every other week (only one clinic open for us on saturday/sunday). I hate the idea of NEVER having a day off but an extra $600/month for watching tv at work instead of at home on the weekends is too much to pass up. Hell, I can see myself making 70k in two years and still keeping this gig b/c it's practically paying my rent. (1 bedrooms here are only $700 for really nice apartments).

Kirk_TWC Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□I had a hard time finding a PT job thats IT related also. I never found one but I got very lucky with the job I found. I accepted a PT Merchandiser position for a Dairy company. I restock Milk, fruit juices and other products at Wal-Marts in my city. I get $15/hr plus reimbursement for gas mileage. I only work 2 days a week but I get around 20 hours...6-11pm & 6AM-7PM.
The good thing is the people at the job are friendly and they sound pretty promising about the potential growth within the company. This "entry lvl" position can possibly help me get a better job down the road, especially with my background. I checked their website and they have some nice openings...unfortunately I would have to relocate but the future looks bright if I hang around.
So try to find positions with good companies,do like I did and pull up the Fortune 500 list and try to find companies that have opportunities in your area then except a position that you wouldn't mind doing.--Future Plans--

I can't say that I agree with this. Working bottom rung IT and grabbing experience would be better than this. But to each their own. If you like what your doing then more power to you.Decide what to be and go be it. -

I agree, try bottom rung IT then what I said lol.
My full-time job is IT related so thats why I didnt really have a big preference on a part time job. I would have prefered a part time IT job as well but never found one but I am content with what I have...--Future Plans--

I usually paid my guys anywhere from 12-15.50 an hour when I was running a GeekSquad precinct. That's not bad money for doing OS restore/hardware installs all day. The work isn't the hardest thing in the world.
