Thanks. Just started reading it.

I find it odd that Windows DNS is just a click click click and it works; where as in any linux system you need to setup the config files, zones, etc. It does allow you to gain a better understanding when having to configure things by hand though...

It has its roots in UNIX systems and therefore doesn't have a GUI built into it unlike Windows tools. If you're running a large system then I'd prefer the text configuration files over a GUI. BIND v9 allows you to keep the zone files in a database if you prefer.

BIND is the reference implementation of a DNS server. Last time I looked, it was running around 75% of the DNS servers in the world.
