Hi all,
Barely got my foot in the info sec world recently (mostly due to Army experience and sec+ cert) and been doing some long term thinking. Im currently trying to get legit experience from my current job but have been looking at other jobs out of curiosity. All of the jobs I'm interested in and meet may meet most of the criteria except for the one: where they require a degree in comp science, info systems, etc. I have a bachelor's in psych (don't ask, had totally different career path in mind coming out of college) and finishing up my MBA in December.
My question is, for positions like those above, would HR accept an I.T. graduate certificate in addition to my MBA in Management for educational requirement or would it be better to go for a second bachelor's or masters in an I.T. field?
I applied to Excelsior College and was accepted but I did not start. I have really heard nothing about it in regards to actual experience. It looks very good but is it reputable? So many unanswered questions however they are a NSA DHS school.
University of Maryland University College is part of the Maryland University system and offers IT certificates and degrees that can be done completely online.
Charles Sturt University in Australia offers Bachelors and Masters' degrees, for local and foreign students. All can be completed online. Most of the programs are run in conjunction with their partner IT Masters. Entry requirements are very flexible.
Master's are 12 (or 16) equally weighted subjects, normally over 1.5 - 2 years full time (2 trimesters/year, 4 subjects/trimester). But can be completed more quickly or slowly. Cost is $3250AUD/subject. The options are:
They also give credit for various certifications and equivalent study up to 50% of the course. A Master's degree there is typically 12 equally weighted subjects, where 4 subjects is a "full time load" for a trimester. So in theory, you could complete a Master's degree in year part time.
So, assuming that you get 50% credit, then you could get your Master's degree for $19,500AUD or ~$14,000USD.
They also run PhD and Doctor of IT programs, however these do have a residential component.
Thank you for the helpful list. Many friends of mine would like to get a degree in IT, and such colleges are nice opportunity to get it, if you are busy with your family or have work. Moreover, there is always some place for perfection in any specialization and it is really nice if you can get your degree online
If you got your B.S from WGU,can you get your masters from other universities(online or in campus) considering WGU has a different grading system?
Thnx
I don't go there but I can only assume that if it is accredited like it says below, then yes. That is not from experience, though.
"Western Governors University is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, one of the major accrediting commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Regional accreditation is the highest form of accreditation."
