Deploying Windows 7 section help

tragiktragik Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□
This is my first posting so hi everyone..

I am breaking down and working on my Microsoft certs, 70-680 being my first from MS. Now, I currently work in a corporate environment (pcops-desktop support) and we use such things as LANDesk for our imaging purposes and have used (sysprep to prepare an image to create a ghost image). I am no where near as smart as some of you guys on here.. but man this section is just baffling me..

I have no way to try these crazy steps.. I have a windows 7 enterprise at home and have installed the windows virtual pc with a clean 7 install. Also installed the Windows AIK as well..

Now i am reading the Microsoft press book (70-680) and only 2nd chapter into it.. So far I have been moving smooth and retaining the information. But this process i am reading and just can't do..

Those of you who have passed, how did you get through this chapter with confidence? did you memorize key components for the test? did you or do you use this in full force at home/work? how did you build a test to try this stuff out at home? ( i am currently only running one machine with plenty of RAM and several hard drives if need be)..

thanks.. this chapter is really discouraging me..

This chapter is kind of messy. The way it was written was not done very well. You might try the stickied post at the top of this forum. There are some pretty good resources on there for imaging.

Chapter 2 was written very poorly and is riddled with errors. You should actually use mainly the sticky post in here for your resources on deployment. There is also a post in here http://www.techexams.net/forums/windows-7-exams/52189-windows-7-deployment-learning-portal.html which a lot of people used.

Iwas going to get my Windows 7 cert until I encountered Chapter 2. I've put it off til I'm done with my MCITP:EA. It's mainly chapter 2 & 3 whicha aren't very good. MS has a list of the typos in the book Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: 70-680 Errata Thread and there was also a very good Microsoft live meeting a while back called windows 7 exam cram but I can't find the link to the recorded version

When I studied for the 270 XP exam, I skipped the second half of chapter 2. (Which was on deploying). It was really dragging me down. I read the rest of the book and then came back to it when I had already covered the rest of the book. Plus my progress really slowed during that section. Wanted to keep moving at a good pace.

And also, you might consider yourself less smart than others. But don't believe that. Just because everyone else has these fancy titles doesn't make them smart. It just means they put the time and effort into something. Everything is hard until you learn it, then it becomes easy.
Decide what to be and go be it.

This chapter though is just riddled with errors. A lot of it looks like it's a very poorly done copy/paste job from other sources. Where you have command line stuuf it wont work how they present it in the book.. I could go on and on.
I practically rewrote that chapter finding and fixing errors and I got answers to some of them through the community at WGU where a lot of people have really struggled with the class for Windows 7

Thank you for your wisdom.. You are absolutely correct! I am not dumb but I am not as 'experienced' as others on this subject matter.. you know.. I will look at seeing if i can come back to this section at the end..

It just sucks not having a live environment to do this in..

thanks. ( really, such great suggestions and tips. was half way expecting my worried post just to disappear onto page 2)

Doing the exercises work quite well on a VM. I use VMWare workstation 7.0 but it's not free (except to us WGU students) if you're a student anywhere I hear you get a discount for workstation. Virtual box is also good and it's free.
You can also use windows virtual PC which is also ok for labbing.
