Career path from Application Support

Hi All,
This is Anil working in Convergys.
Im working as Support Analyst for Telecom rating and billing applications.
Its been 2.5 years now in the same role. And now i want to do some certifications, so that i can shift my career to more technical oriented (Oracle DBA) than application support, (Now programming would be difficult, will be a fresher if i go towards that way).
In my curent role we use Unix,Oracle so, deciding to go on for a System admin certification first and then Oracle DBA.
I need advice from you guys. Please help !
