TSHOOT Failed

Hey guys,

Thought I'd keep you up to date, I failed yet again. 766 needed a 790 to pass. Not sure what I missed, I'm going to retake after 06/11/2010 when they allow me to. Keep you up to date. To be honest my heart dropped when I seen I missed it by 24 points, such a tease, just as bad as the BSCI, when I failed by 7 points. Definitely down in the **** after that.

Sorry to hear that. Did the test seem any different from last time?

Did you work on your weak areas from last time?

Yes, I did. The test was exactly the same, a few different questions. I missed one question I know for sure, but it was a multiple choice, so I don't know how much it was worth. There was one other question that I had an issue pin-pointing the "exact" issue. I'll probably be retaking it on the 12th, next Saturday. I want that CCNP title so bad I can taste it, and to be held back by 24 SUCKS! LOL.

Man you are so close dude!! I know how you feel although you are at the tail end of obtaining your CCNP while I'm just starting. But I'd like to be able to wake up one day and say, "cool, I'm actually CCNP too!!"

So go for it next week while the info is still fresh....3rd times the charm right? :D

That sucks. You'll get it soon enough! Think of it like this, you know how difficult the test is so you know it will me valuable to you.

What resources are you using to study for it?

I've just been using everything I learned from my BSCI and my BCMSN. I took the TSHOOT topology and built the entire network from the ground up to get familiar with how it works, and how the network is built, and supposed to work. I felt way more confident on this try. There were two areas I know for sure where I messed up, one I think I answered right, but not quite sure, I think that's the one area that held me back, I knew where the problem wasbut not what caused the actual issue. I don't want to detail it because I don't want to violate NDA. But, I just want to wake up and know that I am CCNP. I'm going in next week more confident and hopefully coming out on top. Only thing is chances are I'm getting hit with different questions. So we will see how it goes. I have the TSHOOT exam cert guide but it pretty much looks like a waste of time.

In addition, I can honestly say, that you gotta know your stuff for this exam. Cisco definitely used this as a tool not only to MAKE MONEY, but to weed out the dumpers. Good luck getting passed this if you **** your ROUTE and SWITCH exam. Hopefully, it makes people release that new CCNP's are more valuable than before, especially with this new addition. I was going to do the ONT and ISCW route, but to be honest, I am not doing that, that's why I re-did TSHOOT. Now that I have failed this thing again, I'm going to conquer this beast.

This is excellent. To me, me the harder, the better. The more the test is versatile to rule out dumpers, the better it is for everyone. I'm glad to hear this....

Unfortunately Cisco is making quite a bit off you for return visits... icon_redface.gif

    LOL

Yeah I know what you mean. I agree totally. Honestly, they haven't made too much yet. Only a re-take on my BSCI, and one pay try for TSHOOT. 1st TSHOOT, I got to take the beta free of charge. HOPEFULLY off my re-tries for CCNP, that ends this Saturday 06/12. But I totally agree, this is going to add more value to the current CCNP's out there. icon_thumright.gif

You can do it Man. I know the feeling I had that happen with my ccent. I failed by one point. I am on my CCNP Switch studies right now. I was going to do security but nah another day for that. I am liking the switching and routing world for now.

What is your resource for TSHOOT exam?
  • billscott92787billscott92787 Member Posts: 933
First of all, I wouldn't consider 24 points, kicking my butt, LOL. icon_razz.gif My resources are labbing the entire topology from the ground up, and reviewing any weak areas with my BSCI and BCMSN book. I have the TSHOOT cert guide, but it sucks to be honest. Nothing in that text is going to help you pass this exam. In response to my steps, I don't know if I can answer that really, other than using a "step by step" approach to troubleshooting. My next try is this coming Saturday. Good luck to the dumpers on this one icon_thumright.gif cause your not passing it if you **** SWITCH + ROUTE. Honestly I wouldn't even waste the money buying it the TSHOOT cert guide, everything that's in that text is in your BSCI + BCMSN books or ROUTE + SWITCH books. For those of you wondering what to do and prepare. The best tip I can give you is be content to "fine detail" That's all I'm going to say because that doesn't violate NDA. I know the one or two areas that I messed up to just come under that passing mark. So, next time I will be fine. I'm comfortable with the topology and how it all works, so as one already said 3rd time is a charm! Cisco only got $200 out of me one time. I got to take the beta for free. I don't want them to take $200 from me this time unless I get my CCNP certificate in return. To be honest, I want this certification SO BAD I wish I could go re-test right now. I am very unhappy with my current job and am looking for something else, which this cert is going to open up a few doors for me.

In all honesty, those of you that haven't taken the exam, will know after you take it, it is designed solely to rid the dumpers. Secondly, it is designed to make Cisco the coin, you know ca-ching, cash, dollars, money, $$$$$. I'm sure Cisco is going to make a good bit off of this exam, just like they did with the old CIT exam.

Good luck to the dumpers on this one icon_thumright.gif cause your not passing it if you **** SWITCH + ROUTE.

Yup yup, I can't wait for August for that reason. I never understood the reasoning behind dumping to be honest. Say you have a basic understanding of the technologies covered in the NP exams because you dumped the material...do you really think you're going to be able to do the work of a job requiring you to have a CCNP?

I hear ya, I'm sure it will help set yourself apart from the crowd. It's no substitute for job experience, but it helps to be sure.

Billscott, if I offended you in anyway then I apologize. You may be offended again by this post but I'll say it anyway.

I consider any vendor kicking your butt if you fail the exam, regardless of points. A lot of you may or may not agree with it but that's my point of view. I've also had my share where I was 21 points shy from passing an exam. I never took it again though. But I still considered it as kicking my butt.

I found that TSHOOT beta exam was hard because the amount of questions within 120 minutes. I also thought that it wasn't doable by the way the exam was setup. I had a lot of complaints with the beta exam, from screen size (i have dual display at home and at work so screen real estate can save you time), amount of question within 120 minutes (was it really 120mins? forgot), scrolling experience, non-working commands, and etc. I though Cisco wants to make it as real-world as much as possible. Really? Real world don't let you issue commands that works in a production environment? I passed the beta exam but I still complain about it because another candidate will most likely say the same thing.

When I first saw the first trouble ticket, I had no good process in attacking the question. Good thing I was able to learn a good process (at least in my point of view) as I progressed. I always tried to start from the PC unless the question says otherwise. I am sure you know what I am talking about. c",)

I think attention to detail is the key for this exam. I had two trouble tickets that I didn't pay attention to some of the commands. If I did pay attention to them then I am sure I could've moved on to the next after 2-5 minutes of spending time with the trouble ticket.

You can build a real or virtual lab mocking the TSHOOT topology but not paying attention to detail can really hurt you.

I'm not offended in any way. You can call it what you want. I just call it a fail or set back. Getting your butt "kicked' to me, is when someone gives you an @$$ whipping that you can't get back up and go at them again. I don't know what fights you've been in! icon_thumright.gif LOL. Also, I'm assuming by your above quote, about paying attention to detail your saying that I don't? If that's the case your wrong. If I didn't I wouldn't have got that close. Say what you want. All I know is, I'm confident I will pass the exam. If you passed the beta, I wouldn't whine and complain about anything, you passed, move on find a new goal. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the exam. The "MOCK" lab that I created, was just to build my confidence with the technologies, and get some more practice in before the lab. I don't mean to offend you if you take it that way, but again getting your butt kicked would be needed like a 790 to pass and getting a 400-600.

But, to answer your question, I used the same approach you did starting at the computer. Then working my way up. You know what I mean.

Even Wendell Odom have some complaints that are similar to mine.

You may want to read Wendell Odom's post about how to attack the trouble tickets. It might help you out. Since you're too close in passing the exam it might not do anything other than waste your time.

Good luck on your next attempt. Hope you'll get your CCNP.

I checked out the blog by Odom. It's pretty good. Gives you a good approach to attacking things. Pretty much everything he recommends, I have done on the two attempts I made. The first attempt (beta), I was just totally stunned by the topology, that I think I scared myself into failing. I don't think my eyes have ever been so wide. After reviewing it for a month or so while studying ONT, I got more comfortable and especially once building it from the ground up. So, I can sit in the exam room without shaking now lol. Which is definitely a good thing. I'll keep you all posted on the next attempt. The best thing of all as we all know is the dumpers are going to have problems passing this beast.

Cisco threw pretty much everything covered in the BCMSN, and BSCI into that topology. I think I'd find it a little overwhelming too going in blind.

You got this next one though. Good luck.

It all comes down to personal preference, but for the hot summer days I like to keep it light, crisp and clean. Out of your list I like HARP, also similar is the Helles style Spaten Premium. Or if your feeling venturous, a real pilsner like my favorite summer beer, Warsteiner for for a little more hop bitterness and flavor. This is making me thirsty ;)

We don't get Yuengling in Texas, but I hear it is very good.
