Bad Fa port?

xenodamusxenodamus Member Posts: 758
Hey guys - I just got some hardware in from ebay and I'm trying to narrow down a problem. I've eliminated extra hardware to simplify the troubleshooting here. Right now I've got this:

2950 Switch
2621 Router

Bottom line is, I can ping when using the router's fa0/0 port but not the fa0/1. When I connect the switch to the suspect port, it shows up/up on the router, but the pings dont go through. Each time I ping, the "input errors" and "overrun" are incremented on the router fa0/1 as well.

(before I tried the alternate port I removed the ip/snm from one port and placed it on the other)

The only config on these ports is IP/SNM/no shut

This looks like its just a bad port, but I've never had hardware problems before and wanted to confirm.

    I don't have any expert advice. :)

But the first thing that comes to mind is make sure the speed/duplex settings are matching. Maybe even set them manually rather than auto. Just a thought.

Thanks - I did check them, but I'll give manual settings a try.

    Update: Manual speed/duplex didn't help.

Also noticed that the "interface resets" counter on the router increments when I ping as well.
