Took it today and I think I passed. I took the 686 immediately following the 681 and passed it easily with an 895, and since there is so much overlap I should have done well on the beta.

I think there were more Office questions on this exam compared to the 624 Vista and Office exam. Nothing too challenging, but you definitely need to cover the Office deployment and configuration methods. I expected plenty of MDT and SCCM questions and I was not disappointed. There were more Unattend and small-scale deployment type questions than I expected so that may have hurt me a bit.

Thanks for the info. I had not put much into the Office deployment part of the exam. I am taking the test tomorrow morning. I will put some time today into the Office part now.

i did this exam today. As already mentioned, expect a lot of Office 2010, MDT and SCCM. Some of the stuff was pretty basic and some of the questions were quite challenging.
If i passed i may have just scraped thru (hopefully). Got some stuff i wasnt really expecting but in hindsight i should have looked into. I used it mainly as a warm up for the 70-686 which i plan on taking in a week.
  • ClaymooreClaymoore Member Posts: 1,637
I think the 686 should be a warm-up for the 681. I thought the deployment questions on the 686 were easier than the questions on the 681. I actually didn't study for the 686, figuring that between my preparation for the 81 and prior experience with win7 that I would be fine.

There were more group policy questions on the 86 which was a pleasant surprise. Both because I think an EDA should have a good understanding of how to manage workstations with gpos and because I like the free points.

I took the exam yesterday, I do not think I did very well. It was a lot harder than I had thought it would be. No big deal, I like taking beta exams.

I took the exam on Friday, I fancy a passing score since I got a lot of deployment using GPO's questions, several WDS ones and the rest of them were Office 2010, MDT and SCCM. Quite surprisingly, I had a question or two from Terminal Services and NAP. Let's see...

I was pretty surprised at the depth of a few of the questions around MDT. I took it Friday as well. Some questions were no-brainers and others took a bit of time to think about. I felt the test was a little long. I don't think 75 questions are necessary for testing on deployment of Win 7 and Office.

I took the exam today, I do not think that I will pass ncool.gif

I think I will go for the real exam when it is released, the course material seems interesting.

Either way, this isnt an overly important exam for me to pass so im not totally concerned.

Has anyone gotten results from this beta yet. It still says TESTED for me.

I don't think that the results will be out until October
  • ClaymooreClaymoore Member Posts: 1,637
I saw the thread update and figured the results were finally out.

Prometric still says 'Tested' for me as well. According to the MS learning site, the exam will be released on 9/24 so I would expect results any day now.

Now I thought I had a decent chance at passing this exam, but I maintained my 100% record on MS beta exams with a fail. Damn.

    How did you guys go?

Checked the Prometric site I passed the exam. Ah thank god I thought I may have failed this so glad to see the pass.
  • aaronchristensonaaronchristenson Member Posts: 261 ■■■■□□□□□□
I failed as well. No worries, I did not think I was ready anyways. This was not an exam I really needed anyways. I will just take the regular Windows 7 exam for the EA track.

    I am shocked.

    I passed!

Preparation time = 5 minutes, looking at the summary created by a TE Member - I can not find the thread, but file name is 70-680_Revision.docx by Wedge

I have 0 experience with the topics covered in the exam.

Now this puts more pressure on me to pass 70-680.

    I'm really really shocked.

It actually puts less pressure on you as that test will count as the client test (as the Vista version did before it) toward the MCITP:EA.

mine says passed as well. Very surprised.

Any idea if we get to see our score or section break down?
  • eloieloi Member Posts: 7 ■□□□□□□□□□
I passed as well. :) I'm happy as I only did minimal study for it, but I had studied for 70-680 a few months before, and had played with Office 2010 beta a little.
    Awaiting results of 70-685

Not true in my case, I bought the book, and the voucher "I have 3 of them for 680, 685 and 686 as part of the certification packs"

So I will have to take the 3 exams and pass by the middle of next year, I am not planning on going to server certificates for 2011.

If I can pass a beta by luck, I must pass the others that I prepare for icon_cry.gif

I passed as well. Study plus experience allowed me to pass 681 and 686 the same day. I already had my EA so I didn't need this as a client exam, but this counts for the MS partner Business Desktop Deployment qualification so I can deliver MS-funded deployment engagements.

Our score reports should be mailed to us in a few weeks.

    Congrats on that Claymoore!
How do you take, and PASS, 2 MS tests in a single day. 1 test is enough to drain a normal person. lol

Congrats to all above who passed and even to those who just ventured to take it and didn't pass.

The 681 and 686 share about 80% of the same objectives, so it's more like taking the same exam twice than taking two different exams. I did the same thing back in March with the 656 MDOP exam and the 669 Desktop Virtualization beta because there was so much overlap between the two.

Because of work obligations, it is sometimes easier for me to set aside an entire Friday for exams. Both days I knocked the exams out in the morning and took off for an extended weekend with the wife.

I hope they correct the name of the certification as it appears on everything including transcript and certificate. Currently it states the following : "Windows 7, Deployment " as opposed to "Windows 7 and Office 2010, Deployment" It is hard for the viewer to notice a difference between this and the 70-680 exam as it is now. I am sure this will be corrected with time. For now I am going to use test name on the resume Windows 7 and Office 2010, Deploying. Not sure if anyone else noticed this or not. Usually the logo's and certificates are not available for a while later so I am sure this is just because it is new.

Ill start working through everything available on these forums, i havent signed in for ages, but i love these forums! :)
