how do i upgrade my ios

i downloaded solarwinds tftp and i've been doing searches through the internet but i'm not understanding what to exactly do. I've also downloaded the upgraded ios bin file from cisco's site.

    You have to make sure your TFTP server is started on your PC. You also have to make sure your PC and router can ping one another. You then have to put the IOS in the directory in which your TFTP server is "serving up" files.

    copy tftp flash <cr>
    destination ip <ip of tftp server>
    destination filename <iosname.bin>
    

    I think that is it... I'm not on a router or switch right now so I can't verify the syntax... but the copy tftp flash should get you started. HTH

    If you're trying to backup the existing IOS image first, a lot of people forget to set SolarWinds security to allow uploads -- and forget about the PCs Windows firewall.

    Which router are you talking about?
