I'm signed up with a local contracting company, I haven't done much work for them and this is why:

Location: Coon Rapids, MN, 55433
Date: 07/19/2010
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time:
Est On Site Arrival Time:
Duration:
Required: Tech MUST have Cat5e Plenum cable so tech must have cable with them and know how to run it. Also AP knowledge is needed as well.
Tools: 8-10ft Ladder, 500ft min. Cat5e Plenum cable, standard cabling tools, cable tester, 4 RJ45 female jacks, 3 surface mount jacks, (2) 5ft patch cables, (1) 10ft patch cable. Client will reimburse for materials up to $75 max. If for any reason materials goes over that amount, need to get approval prior to installing.
Pay: 150.00 PER Site
No service fee is being deducted from this work order.

The 500ft of Plenum cable alone is like $125 and you're only getting $75 for materials. They are crazy, but people do and will accept to work for that low. Ugg...

Where are you getting cable? I've been getting 1000' plenum from a local supplier for about $120. I sometimes see it for $75 at Home Depot.

Woops my mistake I was looking at the wrong cable (Cat 6 plenum). Still, with all the stuff they want you to provide it's like $100. I dunno I just don't think it pays enough for what they are asking.

Another order - drive 50 miles, work 1 hour + provide $10 in parts = $40. If the one I gave you wasn't bad, that one has to be.

Not at all worth it. The first one I wouldnt consider worth it either, I was just questioning your pricing on cable.

I've signed up with a couple of those companies in the past who provide you per-ticket work. It's never worth the pay.

Best cable prices: Cat 5 Network Cables - 1000ft Bulk Cable

Sometimes things like this are just worth it for experience.
