    70-270 -> XP exam
    70-680 -> 7 exam

    No order is needed, take them as you want.

    The order doesn't matter. The 70-270 is for XP Configuring and the 70-680 is for Windows 7 Configuring.

    Darrils book is for the 70-685 and 70-686. The MS Press book is the best book I've heard of for the 70-680 but it's riddled with errors. Be sure to read the resource threads here and check the links for the erratra.

    MCTS : Windows 7, Configuring << when you pass the Windows 7 exam.

    Before the MCTS exams came along, passing any MS exam gave you the MCP certificate, so if the 70-270 XP exam will be your first exam, you can say MCP : Windows XP.

    I didnt write the XP exam, so cant advise on any books, but there are a few tutorials for this exam on this site that are pretty good.

    Now that Windows 7 can be used for the MCSE 2003 is there really any point to taken the 70-270 know really asks for a XP cert specifically. I don't know if you route involves and MCSE or MCSA but passing on of those exams will yield you the MCP as well

    Why do you need to take both client exams ? MS book for Win7 is good I don't know if there is a new version of it since first one had many errors like they said in the thread but there is a list of corrections i've read somewhere (can't remember :S)

    While you’re getting a lot of good answers here, you might like to check out the source for more details. Here are some links:

    This page shows all of the MCTS certifications including Windows 7.
    Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)

    This page shows all of the MCITP certifications including Windows7. (The Windows 7 certifications are under Windows Client and end with a 7).
    Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

    This page shows the exams for the older MCDST (XP) certifications

    I know for the 680, the MS Press Book is probably the top book to use, even with it's flaws. I'd probably supplement it with some other source material, for example I used the Tom Carpenter LearnKey videos with the MS book and that really helped me solidify a 900+ score.

    You should look here

    it's full of resources and books needed for the exams, but why do you need to take two client exams since only one is required

    Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

    Personally i recommend taking only Win 7 exam since it's newer and full of new features but you need as well to practice on XP since it's still widely used.What i'm saying is that you don't need a cert to be good at the product its the experience with it that makes you professional.

    No more than a bit of a rant, to whoever gave me negative rep for saying "WRITE" the exam, you can write, sit or take an exam. Work on your English.
