Interview out of nowhere...

As I'm sure many people here will understand, it is rather annoying when people you don't really know or like find out you are the 'computer guy'. Suddenly you are relied on for their 'computer problems'. Many times, I want to tell them I'm not a 'computer guy' I'm a Network Technician. But they would just smile and laugh at me... I digress...

So one of those phone calls start up and since the person was working on something for a good cause I volunteered myself to give him a hand. Moments later he emailed my credentials to his friend of 15 years who manages a local datacenter as he knew he had just lost an employee and needs a new one.

So after my phone interview just now, I have an interview with them Friday.

Crazy world.

congrats it looks like you could get this position since this is through a contact and I do not think anyone else is competing for this position. Do tell us how the interview goes and if you get the job or not.

Agreed. This is why is it important not to burn any bridges. You just never know who knows who.

I've convinced a good portion of my family that I'm a carpenter for this very reason.

I'm impressed if you have actually convinced parts of your family of that. Personally, I make it very clear from the onset that I have zero desire to help someone troubleshoot/fix/install PC/network gear. There are a small number of people I make exceptions for though.

The interview went great! I'm pretty sure that I am the only one they have pegged for the spot. I'll know tomorrow if I got it for sure or not, but every hint of language without actually saying I have it was said.

I don't want to get excited since its not a sure thing though. I'm pretty confident

Those "unexpected" interviews are fun. I went to lunch with a new vendor recently that threw an employment contract in front of me at the lunch table. It surprised me, aggravated me, and flattered me all at the same time.

I'm told this will be the final interview Wednesday, and it is with HR. I'll find out my salary and if I'm not a serial killer or a corporate menace.

Let's hope for a surprise! On the first bit... not the second.

Actually I'll be going in for the 4th. 1st was Phone, 2nd was department, 3rd was director and some paperwork, and now im on to HR.

The title will be Systems Administrator. I am very excited about the opportunity, but it could still be ripped away from me at a moments notice. I'll talk about the job description once I get it all on paper

I was just about to come and ask how it went. Guess this is my answer. Congrats! Still more cisco work right?

Nice, looks like a good position, will this be windows based system administration? looking after a windows based infrastructure? or will you do the cisco networking stuff.

All in all this looks really good.

It will deal with some windows server stuff, some minor desktop support stuff mixed in (when we go on site to upgrade equipment where they dont have a proper help desk) and alot of cisco networking, and the sites are very long distances apart. A little bit of firewalls mixed in, but I don't think any ATA's.

All in all, it looks like a great experience! But I do not have the job in writing yet, so I'm still trying to stay cautious.
