They are retiring the core MCDST exams as well.

I can't believe they are doing that, but they still are not retiring the MCSE 2003 stuff.

I agree MCDST is a bit premature. I can understand Vista though, nobody uses it.

I got the MCDST understanding it would eventually go away - but i cant imagine they would do that as widespread as it is.

I got the Vista upgrade to extend the timeframe I would have a 'dst' cert...but this is totally lame. I'm not doing W7 on top of those.

Just because the tests are retired doesn't mean the certifications are retired. You could still get many years out of your MCDST if nobody migrates. You will also probably find that employers accept your Vista certification as windows 7. Lots of similiarites, and if you understand xp and vista then 7 can't be too much of a jump for you.

One issue is that because of 7, no one provides Vista training. Many training companies are still having XP and 2k3 classes, but no vista classes. This is especially frustrating when you work for say, the military, and you are required to get a vendor exam on the OS you support. For me that means I have to certify on vista, then certify on 7 (for WGU)

Vista is fairly easy. Get the MS Press Training Kit and Transcender and you should be ok. The Vista exam, unless they've changed since January, doesn't cover deployment like Windows 7 does. The Vista exam is more aimed at consumer related issues not enterprise the way XP and Vista exams were. You can also get the elearning from Microsoft for Vista.
I studied for Vista for about 3 or 4 weeks.

I'm surprised as well. I guess it's just another way of pushing people to Win7.

Vista just never really caught on big like XP did or like Windows 7 is probably going to. I wouldn't be surprised if the Vista Client exam retired before the XP client exam or at least at the same time.

Vista was doomed even before it came out. People were calling it crap before they had even used it. It didn't help that there were lots of bugs on its initial release and that just confirmed what everyone thought.

With SP1 it cleaned up nicely and I have no problems with it.

It also doesn't help that the Client test (and objectives for the test) were not really written with the enterprise customer in mind. It was if MS wanted all IT pros to not only have to take and study for the client exam but also the MCITP:EST

My guess is that the bitlocker encryption did Vista in. IMO Vista was nothing more than a Beta for 7.
