Anyone using Dell Equallogic iSCSI SANs (PS4/6000 series) ?

It might be a stupid question, but neither the installation manual nor the group administration manual is clear in that .. or I missed it (more likely) ..

The question is in regards to the group settings.

In my case I have

1. Group IP: 172.20.1.1
2. eth0: 172.20.1.10
3. eth1: 172,20.1.20

and

Management IP: 192.168.42.1
eth2: 192.168.42.10

At the moment we are connecting from an ESX host via the software iscsi initiator to eth0 / eth1, giving effectively two paths.

Am I right in assuming that you should technically connect to the group ip (here 172.20.1.1) and the SAN itself does the multipathing internally and don't connect to the eth0/1 IPs directly at all ?

I'ts been a while since I used one at my last job, but i do think you connect to the group.

The SANs are deisgned to function as a group so you can add and remove sans from the groups without much, if any, configuration change.

If nothing else ,call Equallogic support. They are excellent and helped us out many times with questions and portions of the setup.

In my experience it won't even let you connect directly to the storage IPs and you have to go through the group IP address. That's if I recall correctly, it's been a while since I've set one up as well.

It does, because this is how it is connected at the moment.

opened a ticket anyway, but yea - even when you connect to the group IP you still see both paths .. so that will be the way to go .. it does make sense, but better make sure before going live :D
